Studying in Canada

To study in Canada, most international students need a study permit (Study Permit). You should apply for a study permit after receiving an official confirmation of admission from a Canadian educational institution.
Requirements for students applying for a study permit in Canada:
– An official admission letter from a Canadian educational institution (Letter of Acceptance).
– Sufficient funds to pay for tuition, living expenses and travel to Canada and back. Documentary evidence of funds for the first year is sufficient. For example, if you intend to take a four-year programme in Canada with total tuition fees of 60 thousand Canadian dollars, you need to show funds of 15 thousand Canadian dollars for the first year, plus living and travel expenses.
– No criminal record or threat to Canada’s national security.
– Good health. If you intend to study in Canada for more than 6 months, you will need to undergo a medical examination.
– You must convince the immigration officer that you will leave Canada after completing your studies.

Ukrainian citizens submit their study permit application to the Embassy of Canada in Kyiv. A separate temporary resident visa application is not required: this visa is included in the study permit application.

A study permit is not required:
– If you intend to study in Canada for no longer than 6 months. However, in that case you need a temporary resident visa to enter Canada.
– If you are a family member of staff of a diplomatic or trade mission.
– If you are in Canada as a member of the armed forces, under the Visiting Forces Act.
