Medical and diagnostic devices – UCA in Bratislava
Bachelor Program in the study programme “Medical and diagnostic devices” (Department of Health Sciences) is professionally oriented training program. The curriculum fully complies with Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications within the European Union (EU).
The standard duration of study is at least three and maximum five years. The training ends with a bachelor’s degree (Bc.).
The curriculum includes compulsory professional practice for the student, total length of one semester. Training Focused on development Practical skills of students. It is carried out in general or specialized health care institutions, in pharmacies of medical devices, state and hospital pharmacies with a portfolio of medical devices. In addition to professional practice in health care institutions, training includes other methods of skills development through laboratory classes, interactive seminars focused on project activities, and internships at other non-health care facilities, workplaces that deal with medical devices and/or medical devices for in vitro diagnostics (state regulatory bodies, manufacturers, representative offices of foreign manufacturers and suppliers of medical devices, etc.).
Theoretical training is interdisciplinary. The student gets a general idea of the different types, types and classes of medical devices that are part of health care. Has knowledge of medical devices in terms of quality, safety control and their intended use to provide medical care.
The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, intensively supported by practical training, will allow the student to develop their abilities, take responsibility to become a competent specialist in medical equipment.

Employment
Graduates of the bachelor’s program become health professionals in the field of health sciences. They can find use in general or specialized health care institutions (central morphology department, laboratory medicine department), in state pharmacies with a variety of medical devices, including medical devices for in vitro diagnostics, and in hospital pharmacies with a medical devices department. Upon completion of the training, they can provide device verification, support systems, technical equipment conversion and perform their maintenance. They are responsible for operational readiness, safe handling of medical devices, economic operation and proper provision of medical facilities with the necessary equipment for medical devices. Graduates of the bachelor’s degree are professionally prepared to work in clinical practice, for example, to ensure the prevention of medical devices, they participate in the certification and production of medical devices. Other applications are regulatory institutions of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic, for example, in the Department of Medical Devices of the State Institute for Control of Medicines, in the Office of Health Supervision and in other state institutions and institutions. Graduates can also work in the pharmaceutical industry with a portfolio of medical devices and medical devices for diagnostics in vitro, with manufacturers of medical devices and systems, in distribution companies, as well as in research and educational fields.
