About the course

Long Island University — a private New York university founded in 1926. It has around 24,000 students, about 8% of them international. Among private US universities, it ranks 8th (or even 7th according to some sources) by student numbers. Long Island University is considered one of the best US universities for liberal arts and sciences, business and management, arts and media, and information technology programmes.

The university’s main campus, C.W. Post Campus, is in Brookville on Long Island’s north shore, 45 minutes from central New York and half an hour from Kennedy International Airport. When the university moved from the city centre to the suburbs in 1947, this campus was conceived as a small liberal arts college. Today, most students — over 11,000 — study here. The university also has several additional campuses in different New York neighbourhoods and suburbs.

Post Campus is considered one of the most beautiful and safest in the country. Beautiful green lawns, three historic buildings and proximity to New York offer excellent opportunities for study and leisure.

The university comprises seven faculties (schools and colleges): informatics and computer science, library and information science, education, humanities and natural sciences, management, healthcare, and visual and performing arts. Across these faculties, the university offers more than 600 pre-degree, degree and postgraduate programmes.

Classes are held in small groups by lecturers combining professional practice with research. The teaching strategy includes individual consultation for every student from the first year and career guidance. The university has a dedicated service: the Professional Experience and Career Planning Office. Its role is to provide practical help with writing CVs, finding employers and planning future careers. According to university statistics, 82% of graduates find work in their field within the first 6 months after graduation.
